
They were finalists in the Social and Community category and were the first asylum seekers ever to be nominated for these prestigious honours.
Though they recently moved to Dublin after securing residency status, the HSE paid for their travel and accommodation expenses in order to return to Galway and attend the Awards Night in the Black Box Theatre.
Many of their friends attended the event to give them moral and vocal support. Sadly, they did not win but they were really happy to return with their two children and renew acquaintances with the many friends that they made in their year-long stay in Galway.
Still their nomination showed just how much we respected them as shining examples of volunteerism and goodness.
