Eglinton Residents Nominated for Mayoral Awards!

Congrats to
Dmitry
&
Natasha Vershinin

for being
nominated
by their many admirers for
the prestigious annual

Galway City
Mayoral Awards
.
These awards were established a few years ago to honour those people who, through their committment to participating in unpaid community and voluntary activities, have had a significant impact on the quality of life of their communities in Galway City.
Our fellow residents, Dmitry & Natasha, are well deserved nominees. Since they came to the the Eglinton in early 2006, they have given so much of their own time to helping others.
Dmitry organised weekly chess classes every Wednesday & assisted ,by his daughter Anastasia, he supervises two weekly Computer Room classes for the Eglinton children.
Natasha provides dancing classes for young residents; the results of her hard work was there for all to see at our recent Christmas Party when her dancing troupe stole the show and was especially commended by our official guest, the Deputy Mayor of Galway City Councillor Padraic Conneely.
Furthermore, she also undertake all the face-painting of Santa's little helpers at the same festive event!
Natasha is always the first to put her name forward to help out at our many special social occasions over the last few years, be it creating novelty decorations, supervising the children's activities or serving food.
So well done to our beloved Dmitry & Natasha and let us hope that they walk away with a Oscar at the official ceremony that will take place in a few weeks time.

It is worth noting too that two of our then residents, Adil & Huda, were finalists in the same awards last February, the first asylum-seekers to be so honoured.
In the previous year, our supporter and volunteer worker Mr. Brendan Smith actually won the Award in the Social & Community category!

University Volunteer Ted Brennan Nominated by the Eglinton Residents!
Finally, the members of the Eglinton Residents' Support Group unanimously nominated Ted Brennan for the Mayoral Awards. Since January 2007, Ted has been a consistent volunteer supervisor in the Computer Room , spending hours there every week. He is particulary popular with the children for his patience and kindness towards them in their own computer classes
Ted was also one of the prime motivators behind the highly successful 'Picnic in the Park' at Renville last September.
