Why I love the Irish People
I have been in Ireland for 10 months now. I am from Iraq and I am a dentist. I think you logically understand why I am here- I am looking for a safe place to live in with my wife and my two children.
I was forced to leave my country. I was doing very well there. I hate to say that I am Sunni and my wife is Shiate, because I do not believe in these new divisions, but the new (elected government!!!!!!!!!) in Iraq do.Well I do not know what is the Irish standpoint towards the people that are looking for asylum seeking status in their country. Some people may consider us parasitical; others may think that we are economical immigrants; some of them may say that we are unwelcome here.
But I have personally not experienced any of these things, I have only encountered respect, compassion and help in anything that we need.I do not pesonally know more than 10 Irish people. I do not want to mention their names here, but they are really great, hospitable and I extend to them my love and full respect:
-A teacher who asks my children not to forget their own language, traditions and religion.-A principal who always asks about you and invites you to his house.-English language teachers who do their best to teach you and give you the confidence that you need.-A government minister and a mayor that you can stand face to face with and chat to them as friends.-Accommodation staff who are trying always to be helpful.
-Voluntary people who are trying to entertain you and your children.-Public Health Nurses who are always trying hard to keep you healthy.-A computer teacher who spends a full day with you every week and contacts you every day to see if you need anything and call you always my friend. It is less than one year I have been here but you gave me full respect and let me fell as a human being that have rights.
